Matthew 5:13&14 ¶ "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.”
There are two of our extraordinary attributes highlighted here by Christ Jesus; we’re the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. Just try to imagine what this means, your value on earth is enormous. Your purpose on earth is definite.
Let’s look at the qualities of salt and light.
Salt: is both a preservative and a condiment for cooking, salt preserves food against putrefaction and also gives it flavour. This means that God has created you for and is trusting you to preserve and give flavour to your world.
Light: reveals things and makes things visible, it also shows the way. Being the light of the world means you are here to give direction and guidance to those in your world. You’re a city set on a hill, don’t try to hide yourself. Your “world” here means your sphere of life, your vicinity, the people around you. That’s your city, street, town, village or country. It doesn’t matter where you find yourself, shine that men may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Someone might ask “how do I shine or how do I give taste to my world?” its simple, continue steadfastly in prayer and soul winning, keep frustrating and paralyzing the works of the adversary by preaching the Gospel and demonstrating the love of God to those in your world and in the regions beyond.
