God wants you.

GOD WANTS YOU AND WANTS YOU TO KNOW HIM:

Just before God created mankind, He said to His Spirit, "Let us make mankind in our image, to be like us..." (Genesis 1:26). God is a Spirit, you are a spirit. God is not a body, neither are you a body. This is so because God made you to look like Him and be like Him. The Bible records for us in many places that God has said that whoever looks for Him will find Him. For example, in one place He says, "When you call out to me and come and pray to me, I'll hear you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:12-13). When He says 'heart' here, He's referring to your spirit. Your body and it's senses (taste, touch, smell, sight, hearing - your brain/nervous system) cannot know God because they were not designed to know God. It is your spirit that was designed to know God. And because God is a Spirit, when He talks to you, He talks to your spirit; He contacts and relates with your spirit, not your body and its senses, not your brain.

What am I saying? I'm saying that you will never find God or know God using human understanding and knowledge because He does not live in this physical realm that human beings study and base their knowledge and understanding on, the Bible clearly shows us that. In order to find God, you must do some spiritual seeking (searching) because He is a Spirit. Jesus Christ said, "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know...But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:22-24). This makes it clear that if you're going to look for God and find Him, you must do it in spirit and in truth; that is, from your spirit (spiritually) and according to truth (reality) - His Word is truth.

Another place in the Bible says, "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." (James 4:8). This is God telling us to come close to Him and to build a relationship with Him. How do we do this though? Well, how did you get close to your closest friend? By talking to them, by finding out who they are and what they're like by hearing their words and seeing them act, by acting in ways that will improve your relationship - respecting them, speaking well to them, not offending them and avoiding offending them etc. Getting close to God is similar because He is a Person: you must talk to Him in prayer, learn and find out His ways and thoughts and who He is by reading the Bible, adapt your life to Him, conform yourself to His ways, learn what offends Him and endeavour to stop doing it, learn what pleases Him and endeavour to do it and so on. You must desire God with your heart, make Him your treasure, and seek Him with all your heart, because your heart will go after what you desire.

The truth is that God wants you, and wants you to know Him, that's why He sent Jesus; He's not trying to know you because He already knows you, better than you know yourself. It's you who needs to get to know Him and understand Him, and you can do that by learning His Word (the Bible), reading it, hearing it being taught, keeping it and talking to Him in prayer. And God's promise to anyone who seeks Him in spirit (from their spirit and in a spiritual manner) and in truth (according to His Word) is that they will find Him and He will reveal Himself to them and draw close to them! God bless you.
