5 five tips on dressing for an interview

Hi

Herewith the 5 Tips on Dressing for an Interview

1. Be conservative and specific

2. Be clean and confident

3. Accessories

4. Check and stay updated

5. Keep your clothes ready a day before the interview

1. Be conservative and specific

There are times when you may not be absolutely sure about what to wear.  It’s always better to be dressed a little more professionally than the other way around, in other words, rather overdressed, than under dressed.

Choosing simple colours like blue, black and grey is a lot safer than going over the top.

Never wear something you’re uncomfortable in. If you haven’t worn something before, this is not the time to try it. Try and wear something that’s appropriate for the job position you’ve applied for.

2. Be clean and confident

Your clothes may look great, but do they look good on you? Remember, only wear something you’re absolutely comfortable and confident in. Under confidence shows itself clearly. You cannot be fidgety and uncomfortable in what you are wearing.

Cleanliness is also crucial. Ensure you give special attention to your hair, nails, teeth, breath and body odour. A pair of unpolished shoes is a strict no-no.

3. Accessories

Accessorise yourself carefully and ensure you don’t look flashy. A formal wrist watch and a pen are essential. Make sure your shoes and belt look clean and match your outfit.

Keep the jewellery to a strict minimum and if you’re wearing earrings, match them carefully.

If you wear make-up, ensure its applied carefully and does not seem over the top.

Apply your cologne / perfume sparingly.

Also, carry a briefcase or leather folder that matches your attire and gives you easy access to required documents.

4. Check and stay updated

Check your clothing carefully. A torn pocket or hanging threads can look terrible.

Keep in mind that something you wore years ago might not be in fashion. Wear it and see how it looks. Check the fitting cautiously. It may be a good idea to ask a friend for an opinion.

5. Keep your clothes ready a day before the interview

Ensure they are clean and well ironed. Before stepping out, check your appearance and satisfy yourself. Walk in with confidence and get the job you want.
